As a beer nerd and a smartphone addict, I absolutely love the fact that there is an app that caters to my vices. I log my beers religiously, often adding locations and photos. Since 1997, SweetWater has been pumping out their signature 420 Extra Pale Ales and really helped start and shape beer culture in the Atlanta metro area. As craft brew consumption and taste has continued to grow, SweetWater’s beer profile has grown right along with it. Whether lining up for Anniversary Series beers or longing for Dank Tank beers of the past, SweetWater grew a beer following by pushing flavors and higher alcohol content long before this was the “mainstream.”

For Roman Catholics, Ash Wednesday and Lent are right around the corner, which means Tuesday is the last day to indulge. For everyone else, Fat Tuesday is an excuse to experience new heights of debauchery, notably if you find yourself in New Orleans with all sorts of beads and cash. Indeed, the carefree nature found in New Orleans is the result of centuries of cultural homogenization. Yes, like a societal jambalaya, there’s a true mixing of cultures from almost every continent. It gave birth to modern hot jazz, and it found a way to mix all sorts of spirituality, including a wide acceptance of Voodoo. River North Releases Cans of Colorado IPA & Pils

The blokes at River North Brewery (Denver, CO) have added two new beers to its can lineup, Colorado IPA and Pils. Joining perennial favorites River North White and FarmHouse, these new additions are the perfect complement to the brewery’s lineup of #AdventureFuel canned exclusively for Colorado beer lovers. This is big news for a brewery that has recently moved to a new location that allows them to brew beers they have wanted to for a while. Although this is a branching out from their Belgian influences, they are quick to note that they are not retiring any of their longstanding beers.

Well folks, Silver City Brewery has done it again. After a busy 2016 celebrating their 20th anniversary, the Bremerton-based brewery isn’t showing any signs of slowing down, instead releasing a new year-round beer onto the market: The Tropic Haze IPA. This juicy brew hits it out of the park – playing into the “haze craze” that is sweeping the nation while also maintaining an element of mystery and allure for the drinker due to a certain, classified ingredient.

Nevin’s Brewing Company (NBC), located in Chicago’s suburban Plainfield, is a restaurant, banquet hall, music venue and a brewery — and now that brewery has its own name, Nevin’s Draft Company. The “B” in NBC, occasionally got lost in the mix, so the brewing arm of NBC created a new, separate identity. The beer has always been good, but now more people are going to know about it.

As fruitier and juicier IPAs crowd the market, the debate has ensued as to whether this is the best route for the beer style. Personally, I think both can coincide, and I hope that we continue to see the classic more bitter IPAs, as well as the NE-style IPAs, flourish. One excellent example of a fruity (but not over the top) IPA is Nu Skool IPA from Southern Tier Brewing Company.
