Holidaily Brewing Colorado’s 100% Gluten-Free Brewery Turns One

February 3, 2017 |

Gluten-free – trendy, healthy, high maintenance or life altering. Those are just some of the reactions you might receive when you ask people what they think about gluten-free. In truth, those two words evoke vastly different reactions from just about everyone. For Karen Hertz, gluten-free became part of her life during a treatment plan as she battled and beat melanoma in 2007 and then both papillary thyroid cancer and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, an autoimmune disease, in 2008. After beating cancer twice Karen developed a passion for health and happiness. This centered around gluten-free options, but there weren’t many out there in the world of beer. Read More

Cloudburst Brewing | Alternative Facts IPA

Seattle is home to millions of breweries. Did you know that? That’s right! Some are just undocumented… But they are all fantastic. Truly fantastic. The best breweries! People from Portland, Denver cry when they see our breweries. They’re just bitter, those people. Bitter that more people come to OUR breweries. Not breweries in Portland. Not breweries in Denver. People just love Seattle beer. Every city thinks that they have better breweries, but they don’t. SAD.

Ultimate 6er | Six Atlanta Beers For the Big Game

February 2, 2017 |

If you haven’t heard, there’s a big football game on Sunday. (Dear Roger Goodell, I will adhere to licensing rights and avoid using the name of said game, but I think the game will be super!) Let’s face it, for most of us whose teams failed to make it this far, the game featuring New England and Atlanta is secondary to the food, our squares, the commercials, and of course the beer.

So, for those of you rooting for the Falcons, here are six ATL brews that pay homage to the Peach State’s Dirty Birds.

Federation of Malted Republics | A New Hop: Hopi-Wan Galactic Ale

February 2, 2017 |

ABV: 4.5%

Two years ago, I heard a shocking story. My brother’s then-girlfriend had never seen the original Star Wars.

No joke.

It seems impossible that one could grow up in America and not see these epic films. I’m not even close to a full blown Star Wars nerd, but I still love those three original films from the ’70s and I am always stoked when a new one comes out. (Well, not the Jar Jar Binks one; that sucked.) I have yet to see Rogue One, but when I saw this bottle of A New Hop: Hopi Wan Galactic Ale from Federation of Malted Republics (FMR), there was no choice but to buy it.

Three Taverns Brewery | White Hops

ABV: 6.5% | IBU: 55

For me, porch drinking and beer are synonymous with family. My favorite beer of ALL time happens to be Three Taverns Brewery White Hops, which was introduced to me by my brother. For many of us, beer is deeply rooted in the emotion and stories associated with it, which is why I’m so drawn to Three Taverns White Hops.

Eating & Drinking | Narrow Gauge Brewing Company

January 30, 2017 |

If there is one thing in the world of craft beer that is consistent, it is that every brewery has a unique story worth telling. The story of one of St. Louis’ newest breweries, Narrow Gauge, begins 136 years ago. Back in 1878 when railroads ruled the land, rails known as “narrow gauge” were built to minimize construction costs. In that year, the St. Louis and Suburban Railway opened as a narrow gauge steam railroad from the city to Florissant and was called the West End Narrow Gauge Railroad. Today, Florissant based Narrow Gauge Brewing Company pays tribute to this history and the city they call home. Read More

Hi-Wire Brewing | Ringmaster’s Reserve Series – Raspberry Wheat Wine

January 30, 2017 |

ABV: 13.0% | IBU: 40

I just enjoyed the strongest beer I’ve ever had. Coming from one who actively seeks out high gravity beer, I feel like that’s something of an accomplishment. Even more so considering it’s from North Carolina, a state where the statutory limit of alcohol in beer is 15.0%. And while I don’t see much point in setting a legal limit at all, it’s very much preferable to the previous limit of 6.0% (I mean, really?). Thankfully this was lifted in 2005 when former NC governor Mike Easley signed NC HB 392 into law. I feel safe speaking for beer aficionados across the state when I say, “Thanks, Mike.”

Georgia Beer Day Events | January 28, 2017

January 28, 2017 |

While small and independent craft breweries across the nation strive to compete with big beer for shelf space and tap handle placement, there’s another prominent movement happening in the South. More specifically, in the one remaining state that still prohibits the on-site purchase of beer at breweries: Georgia, ooh Georgia.

However, thanks to the unshakable determination of the Georgia Craft Brewers Guild, a bill now exists in the state Senate to modernize Georgia’s ridiculous beer laws once and for all.

Graeter’s Ice Cream Beer is Coming!

January 27, 2017 |

When I moved away from Cincinnati, my favorite homesickness remedy was a pint of Graeter’s black raspberry chip ice cream. Growing up, Graeter’s ice cream was quintessential Cincinnati fare; finding out it was available in my grocer’s freezer section was cause for celebration.

Now there’s a new reason to celebrate: a Graeter’s beer is coming.

The Georgia Craft Brewers Guild issued a statement yesterday saying that the 2017 General Assembly of Georgia will “consider legislation to allow consumers to purchase beer directly at the brewery that makes it”. This is exciting news for the one remaining state in America that still prohibits on-site purchase of beer at breweries. Little information was provided in the press release, but what was explained was good. Read More
