Christmas Classics | New Belgium Brewing Foeder Frambozen

When it comes to holiday beers, New Belgium Brewing had the market cornered for years with Frambozen: a medium-bodied brown ale awash with fresh raspberries and a delightfully festive pinkish head. The seasonal release was eagerly anticipated every year, and when they discontinued this brew back in 2015, I mourned the loss deeply.

Luckily, though, fans of the tartly fruited brown ale have been treated to new iterations of the classic over the past few years. An imperial version with cocoa was delightfully similar to the original, with subtle hints of chocolate that deepened the overall flavor without adding too much sweetness. I suspect it was the success of that iteration that brings us to the current limited release: New Belgium Brewing Foeder Frambozen.

How a Legal Loophole Inspired Two Colorado Brewers to Create a Unique Beer

Good things come to those who wait, right? That’s the case for Colorado beer drinkers, who got a chance recently to buy Where I Live, a mixed culture dark sour beer created in collaboration between two of Colorado’s most esteemed brewers: New Belgium Brewing Co. and TRVE Brewing. Made with 100% Colorado-made malt and lavender, Where I Live is unique both in composition and inspiration. The brewers first discussed making this beer during the 2016 GABF, but it wasn’t possible due to regulations that prohibited brewer-to-brewery tax-free transfers of ‘finished’ beer. As fate would have it, a legal loophole that popped up in passed legislation one year later made the blending collaboration possible and Where I Live became a reality. Ultimate 6er | Beers for Star Wars: A New Hope

With the Star Wars Saga coming to a close this December, a re-watch of all eight Skywalker films— plus the two spin off movies—seems like the only reasonable way to kick off the finale (at least for this nerd it DEFINITELY is). While watching the 20+ hours of force-filled, wipe-transitioned, Lucas-inspired action you may well be inclined to drink a beer (or six).

If you’ve got a bad feeling about this, or you just don’t have time to watch all those movies before the Episode IX, then try starting with the original film, Episode IV: A New Hope. This is a great jumping off point—after all, it’s where this whole story started. Avoid the who-shot-first argument (it was Han, people, it just was) by assembling the best six pack to share with your friends while you watch the lamest lightsaber fight in Star Wars history. Christmas Classics | Avery Brewing Old Jubilation Ale

At 8.3% ABV, “Old Jube” (as the folks at Avery Brewing like to refer to their Old Jubilation Ale) is strong and rich, but not overwhelming. Not a typical heavily spiced Winter Ale (it actually has no spices), it is rich, dark and malt-forward. Because of the avoidance of spices, the malts really get to shine. With a combination of five specialty malts (Two Row Barley, Honey, Bonlander Munich, Chocolate and Black), we get a flavor that is rich, velvety and a bit fruity.
