Springdale | Art Dekkera
April 23, 2019 | Zach BenardAs a beer drinker, you’re familiar with wild ales. You’re familiar with saisons, too. But wild American saison may be new territory for you. For those unfamiliar to the term, it’s open to a lot of interpretation. This is where Art Dekkera from Springdale comes in. Springdale, an experimental offshoot of Jack’s Abby Brewing in Framingham, MA, is known for its wide variety of beers that range from IPAs to sours. So when they announced a new wild American saison, the style certainly sounded like a beer they would brew.
Wallenpaupack Brewing Co. | Femme Brutale Brut IPA
April 2, 2019 | Lora KormosStrong as an ox.
Solid as a rock.
These phrases perfectly describe an up-and-coming brewery, Wallenpaupack Brewing Co. It’s situated in Hawley, PA, close to the third largest lake man-made lake in Pennsylvania; follow the coast and its 52 miles of shoreline will lead you to some fantastic beer. Lake Wallenpaupack is a major recreational destination in the Pocono Mountain region. However, it was lacking a place that brewed some solid brews. Siblings Becky and Christopher Ryman noticed the need for a brewery around the lake and decided to get to work on offering the area something unique.
Plan Bee Farm Brewery | Barn Beer
March 27, 2019 | Hannah CarlsonI had the good fortune of recently visiting New York City for work. A place that I had not visited for more than ten years, when I was a bright-eyed and bushy-tailed high school graduate. New York has been on my mind frequently over the last few years. One could argue that there is no better place to eat or drink in the world than New York – and thanks to our wonderful Northeast team feeding us a wealth of information of how to experience the craft scene in the city, I was in awe of my good fortune. I was finally going to be able to sip my way through the Big Apple properly for the first time.
Root Down Brewing Co. | Low Bridge Lager
March 26, 2019 | Kurt BevilacquaLet me be clear: There is nothing fancy about this beer. No foraged fruit from the wooded land out back; no rare yeast secretly used; no pungent ingredients to overpower the palate. Plain and simple, the clean and crisp Low Bridge Lager is a delicious combination of the four essential elements of beer that Root Down Brewing Company let shine in this brew. Read More
Forgotten Boardwalk | 1916 Shore Shiver
March 19, 2019 | E.G. MettsPretty soon the days will become even longer and the temperatures will continue to get hotter. If you live in the mid-Atlantic, you also understand the oppressive humidity. Some of us are lucky enough to be born into this swamp state with a huge shoreline while others flock here in the summer. To battle the upcoming season, you’ll most certainly need a beer; I’d recommend Forgotten Boardwalk 1916 Shore Shiver.

Allagash Brewing Company | Coolship Resurgam
March 12, 2019 | Zach BenardIf there’s one thing I’ve learned about Allagash Brewing Company since I started paying attention to their beers, it’s this: They’re reliable, in multiple senses of the word. I rely on them when I’m eating out and unsure of which beer to order—until I see Allagash White, which is my foolproof safety. I also rely on them for their ability to bring quality concoctions to the table. Take Coolship Resurgam, for example, part of their Coolship series. But before we go any further, what is a coolship?
Sinistral Brewing | Draft Favorites
February 26, 2019 | Stacey GoersVirginia’s beer market is booming, with big names and new, sprawling establishments. Among those, Sinistral Brewing Company, located in Manassas, VA, really embraces simplicity, though it certainly isn’t dull. Sinistral takes family and community to heart: its location is right near a commuter rail station; they provide a venue to featuring local musicians and they name beers after colleagues’ children, just to give a few examples.
Brewery Showcase | Aston Abbey Brewing Company
February 14, 2019 | Kurt BevilacquaUnfiltered. Unpasteurized. Unrepentant. That’s what each beer from Aston Abbey Brewing Company prides itself on.
But underneath the bright, refreshing flavors of their West in Peace Wit or the rich, malty aromas of their Bombs Quad lies the heart and soul of Chuck and Sue McKenna within each beer. The two of them have shared some of their fondest memories together, a list that includes opening up Aston Abbey Brewing Company as a husband and wife duo. Read More

Strange Roots Experimental Ales | Grapeyard Shift
January 21, 2019 | Michelle ThomasI don’t care what season it is—it’s always time for a saison. The word “saison,” after all, means season in French. If you’re like me, you’re always looking for another one to try. And lately, a ton of wine barrel-aged saisons have been popping up. So when I saw Grapeyard Shift from Strange Roots, I knew it belonged in my fridge.
Metropolitan Brewing Celebrates 10 Years of Business in the Increasingly Competitive Chicago Market
January 17, 2019 | Taylor LaabsChicago and the surrounding area are currently home to the most breweries in the nation. It’s an especially impressive stat when you realize that the market hasn’t really been around for that long. Being able to create a successful brewery during the early growth period of the Chicago market and then stay equally successful amongst growing competition across every neighborhood in the city is an impressive feat that deserves a bit of praise. It’s not easy, but Metropolitan Brewing has managed to do it, which is why their upcoming 10 Year Anniversary celebration this Saturday is so exciting.
We Talked with Allagash | Canning Allagash White; River Trip Debut
January 15, 2019 | Zach BenardClassics can stay classics while still getting a refresh. Such is the case for Allagash White, one of the staple Belgian beers in the United States. Allagash announced last week that they’ll be canning Allagash White, as well as a new beer in their core lineup: River Trip. I got in touch with Brett Willis, marketing specialist at Allagash, to learn more about the announcement.
Exhibit ‘A’ Brewing Company | We’re Going To Need You To Come In On Saturday
January 14, 2019 | Kevin HartnettIt’s Friday afternoon and you can feel the weekend has finally arrived. It’s a short walk from your desk to the door. All you have to do is make it there without being seen. If you can do that, you’re free. The coast looks clear, and you make a break for it. Out of nowhere, there’s Bill. “We’re going to need you to come in on Saturday, mmmk?”

Foreign Objects Beer Co. | Mystic Flowers of Perpetual Slumber
December 11, 2018 | Michelle ThomasOn a recent trip to Pittsburgh, I decided to visit a bottle shop to see if there was anything this Florida gal couldn’t get her hands on back home. I was immediately taken by the can artwork by a specific brewery; I knew this beer must be something special.
Special, indeed.
Foreign Objects Beer Company is just over a year old but what they’ve got going on belies their young age. Their beer? Amazing. Information about the brewery? Not much. Their intentionally vague descriptions of beers (Ale with hops? Sure.), their brewery and even their location are hard to find and even harder to pin down. Are they in Pottstown, PA, like their can indicated? Are they in New Paltz, NY, like another website said? Are they gypsy brewers? It’s hard to tell, really.
La Cabra Brewing | Mosaic Shatter
December 5, 2018 | Kurt BevilacquaAlong Philadelphia’s Main Line, sits a seven-barrel brewhouse in the suburb of Berwyn, PA. It’s the creation of a once Spanish teacher turned professional brewer. La Cabra Brewing, translated to “the goat” from Spanish, is named appropriately since the brewery shares similar features and traits to the animal. Fun, smart, and persistent are just some of the values both goats and La Cabra embody. And one of the latest releases from the Pennsylvania brewery is an IPA that falls in line with that same philosophy. Read More
