Event Recap | 2022 Side Project Invitational

It has been just over two years since the inaugural Side Project Invitational came and went, setting a new standard for craft beer festivals. Not long after its debut on February 2, 2020, the entire world was shaken by the COVID-19 pandemic, the effects of which are continuing to bare their teeth even into the early parts of 2022. It hasn’t all been bad, though. On January 31, Side Project announced the second Invitational, which was to include not only Barrel-Aged Stouts & Barleywines, but instead all varieties of oak-aged beer. This, to the joy of many, was set to include the wild, the funky and the sour.
Elsewhere Brewing | Save the Sacks Helles Lager

There are plenty of blurred lines when marketing in the craft beer industry, but when it’s tastefully done a beer can really stand out in the crowd. Atlanta’s own Elsewhere Brewing once again nailed that feat with the new release in their “Beer For a Cause” series. The new release in the series, Save the Sacks Helles Lager, takes testicular cancer to heart and in an obvious way. Save the Sacks was released on the first of April, which is testicular cancer awareness month, and it’s no joke. Read More

Craft Women Connect was founded by Jen Price (@AtlBeerBoutique), Michelle Turner (@ExcitedtoFeast), Chris Hughes (@TheeCraftbeerconnoisseur), and Britne Dionne, and Caitlin Bradfield (@beersagogo) back in January 2019 as a response to the lack of spaces for and visibility of women of color in the Atlanta beer scene.

Sunday, January 30, was the launch of Eastern Philosophy: A Kaiju Brew – the first beer brewed to fundraise for Stop AAPI Hate. The brainchild of Will Golden, Director of Brewing Operations and Co-founder of Austin Beerworks and Chris Gomez, Owner of Kaiju Cut & Sew, the event brought together several local businesses, with hundreds of Austinites in attendance to show their support and get a taste of this very special beer.

As a native Wisconsinite and a current Chicagoan, Dry January has never been something I have attempted before. After a heavily celebrated December (and negative COVID tests abound), I knew this year was the time to take the plunge. Despite two full beer fridges from advent calendars and friends leaving beer at my home, I went into January with a strong resolve. Craft beer is an industry filled with thoughts of endless streams of alcohol, beer dinners galore, festivals every weekend (sometimes multiple) and just pure gluttonous behavior. As someone who has been in the industry for over 12 years and having known nothing but this behavior, the illustrious vision of others was becoming a stigma for me. As a 33-year-old father now, my health isn’t the greatest. My goals aren’t the same as they were when I was 21, and staying out at a bar isn’t what I would call a good time anymore. There needed to be a change, but I caught myself wondering how I could make that change. It started with plenty of fears both professionally and personally. Having the fear of missing out, the fear of peer and customer opinions and the fear of perception, kept me from making any change. That is until I went to get a check-up.

Week 12 of the NFL season was once again highlighted by several huge performances from running backs across the league. Leonard Fournette won the day by carrying the ball 17 times for 100 yards while adding 31 yards through the air on seven catches. Oh, and he had a cool four TDs on top of the yardage for a 40+ point week. The Atlanta Falcons do-it-all back Cordarrelle Patterson rushed 16 times for 108 and a pair of scores. Dontrell Hilliard for the Derrick Henry-less Titans had 131 on only a dozen carries with a score, too. From tailgating to apple picking, Rocktoberfest from Almanac Beer Co. should be a part of your fall activities. Brewer Phil Emerson suggests taking it out in nature, “Hiking! Living close to Joaquin Miller park I enjoyed this beer a few afternoons with my pup while soaking in the view of the bay.”
