Today is National Aviation Day, and let us honor the spirit of Orville Wright by checking out the newly opened FlyteCo Tower, a brewery and location that both pay homage to aviation’s history. Located inside the former air traffic control tower of the shuttered Stapleton International Airport, FlyteCo Tower is a sprawling 25,000 sq ft facility consisting of a taproom with multiple bars and full liquor service, a 2.5 bbl pilot brewery, a full kitchen, 6 bowling lanes, an 18 hole mini golf course, a full arcade, and space to host rotating exhibits from the local Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum.
The ever-popular Burial Beer Co. opened their Charlotte taproom Saturday, June 11, in the Plaza Midwood neighborhood. In true Burial fashion, the space was deemed The House of Relics and they launched with special beer collaborations.
As one of Milwaukee, WI’s newest and most innovative breweries, Amorphic Beer resides in an old brick industrial building in the Riverwest community. The building has a long history of housing creative scientific endeavors, including being the birthplace of the world’s first handheld electric drill, post-WWI. The Hole Shooter was eventually absorbed into Milwaukee Tools’ product offering.
The smell of barbecue is about to get a lot stronger in south Aurora, CO. A Bit Twisted Brewpub is having its grand opening party this weekend, bringing with them an irreverent sense of humor, approachable atmosphere, and some down home Texas-style barbecue.
“Bringing people together over beer” is the main goal of Cohesion Brewing according to its co-owner and brewmaster, Eric Larkin. This new brewery opening soon in the Clayton neighborhood of Denver will welcome neighbors and visitors alike to gather at the newly renovated taproom and drink Czech-style Lagers, a brewery concept unlike any Denver or the entire U.S. have seen before.
Growing up in The Bronx, Harsha Maragh was surrounded by Caribbean music, food, and neighbors as the daughter of two Jamaican immigrants. But after moving to Denver, she found the Mile High City lacking the cultural vibrancy that influenced her …

What started with a large genus of the American IPA further whittles down to your West Coast IPA and New England IPA, and even giving states their own with the Colorado IPA giving rise in the mid-2010s. But getting as niche as a city? Brentwood, California is a small city that sits on the fringes of the East Bay but can feel worlds away with its vast array of farmland that surrounds the adorable downtown. Mostly known for their cherry, peach, and corn production and a smattering of u-pick-it farms, this small community just got its first brewery. The newly minted Imperiale Beer Project wanted to pay homage to the agricultural background of the city they call home with their Masa Brentwood IPA.
“We were just another set of yahoos trying to make it happen,” Jeff Smith, owner and brewer at LUKI Brewery in Arvada, Colorado says. “There are so many delusions of grandeur, so I respect the professional collective apathy at yet another ‘homebrewer going pro’ story.”
In 2018, Smith quit his job to focus on the brewery full-time, unaware (as we all were) of the pandemic that would soon ravage the industry. When his family cut the ribbon on LUKI (a combination of his daughters’ names) in July of 2020, Smith’s “delusions of grandeur” manifested into a wild new reality: A fun, circus-themed brewery on the west side of Arvada.
Opening a new brewery in Charlotte, North Carolina, is already a risky business move. In a city with more than 30 breweries, it’s hard to stand out and generate the revenue and clientele necessary to survive. But opening a new brewery during a global pandemic in any city is an even riskier business move. Edge City Brewery tossed both of those fears to the wind and opened in Charlotte on April 16, 2020.
Ike and Oak Brewing Company recently opened in Woodridge, IL as the city’s second brewery after Skeleton Key. They’re offering 11 of their beers on tap, a variety of pizza options – all in a large venue with an exposed brewhouse and TVs to show any upcoming games. Whether or not that’s conveniently located near you, here’s why you should come through Woodridge.
Nine years ago when Shaun Berns, his wife Brittany and best friend Evan Morris were working at RAM Restaurant & Brewery, they had talked about one day opening their own brewery. The three made their way from RAM to More Brewing which opened in July of 2017. Less than two years later, the three are ready to open up their own brewery – Phase Three Brewing Company.
When brewmaster Eymard Freire first joined the BiXi Beer project he wasn’t married and had no kids. But by the time BiXi opened, Freire was married and his daughter was six months old. Plagued by multiple setbacks, BiXi finally opened in August 2018. The wait was worth it.
Fall weekends in Austin, Texas can trick you into forgetting all about humid summer nights or surprise flash floods. Weather like that can convince someone that patio weather will never end, that you get an extra hour of sleep every night or that that the next beer might be the best beer — Hold Out Brewing is working to make at lease one of those dreams a reality.
An upcoming brewpub in central Austin, Hold Out is spearheaded by brewers Mark Stowe and Brent Sapstead. Brent is the former head brewer and production manager of Real Ale Brewing Company in Blanco, Texas. On Saturday, November 3, Hold Out Brewing threw a preview event hosted by their soon-to-be neighbors, Better Half Coffee and Cocktail Bar. Guests could sample four beers from Hold Out Brewing or purchase two different collaboration beers from Hold Out Brewing and Austin Beerworks.

Days before the craziness of Chicago Craft Beer Week (CCBW), I was offered the opportunity to tour soon-to-open Dovetail Brewery, which is co-owned, operated and run by Bill Wesselink and Hagen Dost. What better way to begin the beer week, than with a preview of the next chapter of Chicago’s burgeoning beer scene.
Dovetail is a reference to the carpenter’s joint of interlocking boards, it is famed for its resistance to being pulled apart. As Bill so elegantly expressed, “It’s coming together to make a stronger brewery. A mix of old and new, American and European to create what we feel is our interpretation.”
Lake Anne Village Center in Reston was active Saturday, April 16 with the opening of Lake Anne Brew House. Reston residents Melissa and Jason Romano purchased a retail space at 11424 Washington Plaza and renovated it, seeking an English pub concept for their new Virginia establishment. The husband and wife team were pleased with the turnout, and the Reston community was enthusiastic Lake Anne Brew House finally opened.
