FoBAB | 2021 Festival of Wood and Barrel-Aged Beer Awards
November 13, 2021 | Mathew PowersNew venue. New normal. Same celebration of barrel-aged beers. After a pandemic-induced hiatus in 2020, the Festival of Wood and Barrel-Aged Beer (FoBAB) returned in 2021, although the masks and vaccination requirements offer a stark reminder that things aren’t quite back to normal. And that’s what made every sip of every strong barrel-aged beer, fruited sour or wild ale even more enjoyable. The awards ceremony returned, too (not streamed). We are happy to provide you a recap of the 2021 FoBAB Awards. Congrats to Charlotte’s Resident Culture Brewing for winning Best in Show, and to Chicago’s Revolution Brewing for winning the Runner Up award.
What We’re Drinking | November 12, 2021
November 12, 2021 | Seth GarlandThere’s something in the air today. Airborne disease? Probably. Pollution? Definitely — but there’s also something less tangible. Maybe it’s the godforsaken time change that turns early afternoon into pitch-black night for those of us living north of the 37th parallel.
Maybe it’s existential dread hanging over all of our heads like poorly (and prematurely) hung misletoe — inviting us in for a germ-filled kiss of death to kick off the holiday season. Or maybe it’s just a head cold.

Quiz | Craft Beer or PlayStation 5 Game?
November 10, 2021 | Drew TrollerTake our quiz: Can you tell the difference between a craft beer and a game released for PlayStation 5?
Happy birthday, PS5! The PlayStation 5 was released on November 12, 2020. It’s still hard to find, but it’s incredible to play. This console has everything: ray-tracing, a new wireless controller with adaptive triggers, an 825GB SSD and a whole bunch of other technical specs which look impressive but don’t really make much sense to me.

Cohesion Brewing | Cohesion 10° Wet Hop
November 8, 2021 | Britt AntleyWet hop season is a magical time of year when freshly harvested hops elevate beers to delectable levels incapable of being reached during growing months. While most wet hop beers are different versions of IPAs, Cohesion Brewing is taking an innovative approach with Cohesion 10° Wet Hop by applying the resinous fresh cones to their Czech Pale Lager, blending a traditional old world style with new age hopping techniques and creating a wholly unique experience in the process.
What We’re Drinking | November 5, 2021
November 5, 2021 | Justin PennelWelcome to the first Friday of November. Seriously, where has this year gone? Hopefully everyone had a fun and safe Halloween and an uneventful and safe election day. Thanks to the chaotic nature of politics in recent history, anytime I hear election I want to grab a beer. So without further ado, this is what we’re drinking.
Almanac Beer Co. | Rocktoberfest
November 5, 2021 | Danielle EngelTraditional Oktoberfest beer is usually brewed in September, in line with the two-week festival that takes place in Munich each year. But you shouldn’t count these Lager beauties out as we transition from spooky season to the holiday season. Their light sweetness and crushable nature make them a perfect addition to fall.
From tailgating to apple picking, Rocktoberfest from Almanac Beer Co. should be a part of your fall activities. Brewer Phil Emerson suggests taking it out in nature, “Hiking! Living close to Joaquin Miller park I enjoyed this beer a few afternoons with my pup while soaking in the view of the bay.”

The Craft Beer Marketing Awards Enters Its Third Season

The first ceremony was held in 2020, but had to go fully virtual due to global COVID-19 shutdowns. Although this timing was unfortunate, it went over extremely well, so the CBMA was held as a hybrid ceremony in 2021, where more than 195 awards were presented. The plan is to hold a fully in-person awards ceremony (with a virtual feed) during the week of the May 2022 Craft Brewers Conference in Minneapolis.

You Owe Your Brewers Guild A Drink | Hard Work Behind the Craft Scenes
November 1, 2021 | Jaclyn MenendezChances are, unless you work in a brewery, you’re not particularly aware of your local Brewers Guild. And that’s kind of the point: they’re designed to run in the background, presenting a united voice on behalf of your region or state for all things craft beer. They have conversations with state and federal government on your behalf, so that you can continue buying and selling beer with fair taxes, licensure requirements, and other things you don’t want to have to worry about. There’s one of these nonprofit organizations in all 50 states, with most states having multiple regional guilds too. And every single guild has had its fair share of headaches during the pandemic.
Fantasy Football Recap | Week 7
October 29, 2021 | Brandon CohranWe joined the first bunch of byes in Week 6, and we came back to more than a handful of teams resting up in Week 7. Many of those teams had fantasy rockstars in lineups across the globe, so players were left scrambling on how to replace them for the week. Usual studs like Dalvin Cook, Josh Allen and rookie-sensation Najee Harris all were among players inactive last week. Jacksonville and the LA Chargers took a break, too. Try to replace players for a week or simply stack the deck and take a week essentially off while not having to worry about others? That’s the gamble. Now, let’s see if it paid off.
