Barrel Room Spotlight | Mortalis Brewing
November 16, 2022 | Eric GriffinEntering the Barrel Room Spotlight for round two is another young but quickly-growing brewery out of Avon, New York. Since opening their doors in 2018, Mortalis Brewing has striven to create a portfolio of beers that both utilize the finest ingredients and break the mold to stand out in a competitive market. Beyond that, they want their beers to be enjoyed in a relaxed environment that promotes memorable and heartfelt human connection. Through this unpretentious and admirable formula, Mortalis has also succeeded in establishing a strong program of barrel-aged beers. We had the opportunity to speak with Paul Grenier, one of the co-owners of Mortalis Brewing, and really get a “behind-the-scenes” look at the inner workings of their barrel room.
Barrel Room Spotlight | Pulpit Rock Brewing
November 2, 2022 | Eric GriffinWhile many breweries may claim it to be unspoken, there has undoubtedly been good-spirited competition across the country when it comes to the realm of barrel-aging. Whether it be the value placed on selected barrels versus adjuncts, formulas for length of aging time to establish a specific finishing gravity, tweaking the interplay of base malt and barrel, or the variation of countless other factors throughout the process, every brewery has their own way of creating a product that is both unique and marketable.

Brewery Showcase | Tree House Brewing Sandwich, MA
September 15, 2022 | Rachel MorrisonIf you like beer even a little bit, you’ve heard of Tree House Brewing. And you haven’t just heard the name, you’ve heard of it in an extreme sense. Maybe two of your co-workers drove cross country to “secure the bag.” Or perhaps your upstairs neighbors graciously gifted you a case after a week of cat sitting. So while you may have been fortunate enough to try Tree House before, you’d never visited any of their brewery locations, until now.

Brewery Showcase | Ope! Brewing Co.
August 10, 2022 | Emma WargoletAs someone with the Instagram bio of “ope,” a visit to Ope! Brewing Co. in West Allis, Wisconsin, was a must. For those unaware of the Midwestern statement, the word “Ope” is used as an exclamation to express surprise, dismay or really anything at all (according to one of the breweries’ stickers). Continuing with the theme of Ope! and general midwestern (specifically, Wisconsin) vibes, the three founders, Adam Anders, Kyle Ciske and John Onopa, were able to scatter nods to their home state throughout the brewery, which opened Memorial Day weekend of 2022.
Brewery Showcase | Kings Bluff Brewery
August 1, 2022 | Jesse BobickKings Bluff Brewery is located in the heart of Clarksville, Tennessee, just 50 miles northwest of Nashville. Clarksville has a very strong military culture due to the nearby Fort Campbell military base, and Austin Peay State University brings some college town vibes to certain areas of the city, but Clarksville isn’t typically known for its craft beer scene.

Brewery Showcase | Best Day Brewing
May 3, 2022 | Jesse BobickSan Francisco-based Tate Huffard is an avid outdoorsman with a passion for craft beer. The two typically go hand-in-hand quite well – what better way to finish off a bike ride or a day on the slopes than stopping at a local brewery afterwards? However, over time, he noticed that the “question of a hangover” started to get in the way of the things he wanted to do.
Brewery Showcase | Strong Rope Brewery
April 22, 2022 | Kevin KainIt’s highly unlikely that Strong Rope Brewery owner Jason Sahler envisioned barley and sailboats when he earned his Sustainability degree from New York University. Yet there he was several years later, receiving a delivery of New York State grown barley that had been sailed down the Hudson River to his brewery in Brooklyn. It’s just one example of the unanticipated ways Sahler applies his sustainability background to his business. Read More

Brewery Showcase | Lost Friend Brewing Co.
March 8, 2022 | Brea Reimer-Baum“A friend got me a home brewing kit as a congratulatory gift when I left the Marine Corps. And I latch on to new hobbies pretty hard… I never actually used the kit. I thought, ‘I could probably do better than this,’ and I proceeded to spend lots of money on bigger and better equipment.”
How big, you ask?
“I had a 1-barrel commercial system in my garage by 2015.”
Hinterland Brewery | Saving Gracie Gluten-Free Hazy IPA
March 4, 2022 | Whitney FroelichHinterland: (noun) a word of German origin meaning “the land behind”; an unexplored, uncharted area full of possibility, opportunity and adventure.
Founded in 1995, Hinterland is Green Bay, Wisconsin’s first modern-day brewery to emerge from the late 1980s craft beer boom. Founders Bill and Michelle Tressler, who were both just 24 years old at the time, moved back home from a rock band drumming, magazine editing, corporate career adventure in California to open a brewery of their own. They rented an old cheese factory outside of town and bootstrapped their way through startup, nearly burning down the factory in the process. Eventually, the Tresslers and their head brewer Joe Karls moved operations into a turn-of-the-century meat processing plant in downtown Green Bay. The small, charming space worked well enough for Hinterland until 2017 when they got a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to expand. They sold the building and brewhouse to Copper State Brewing Company.
Brewery Showcase | Fait la Force Brewing
February 18, 2022 | Jesse BobickNowadays, the concept of differentiation in the craft beer industry typically means going to extremes — brewing the juiciest hazy IPA, the thickest fruited sour, or the strongest imperial stout. However, as the newest entrant to the Nashville beer scene, Fait la Force Brewing takes a step away from the ‘hype’ and instead focuses on a traditional style that doesn’t get as much attention – Belgian beers.
Community Across The Bar | Cheboygan Brewing Co.

In 2011, that history was rebooted with Cheboygan Brewing Company. A decade later, the brewery is still sharing the past and shaping the future of the community from behind the bar.
Backacre Beermakers Moves to Denver
February 16, 2022 | Britt AntleyThere’s a new brewery coming to Denver that will challenge the very concepts of “new” and “brewery.” Backacre Beermakers is moving their operations from Vermont to Denver and bringing along the only beer they produce, Backacre Sour Golden Ale.
