Urban Chestnut’s Annual Oktoberfest St. Louis Returns for its 7th Year

As the cooler temperatures of fall ascend on our city, it will soon be time to welcome back fall beers and of course, fall beer festivals. That’s right, it’s time to drop the C in October and replace it with the K, and welcome back all of the area’s best Oktoberfests, starting with the one that actually takes place in September.
Urban Chestnut Brewing Company’s (UCBC) annual Oktoberfest St. Louis returns for its 7th year on Friday, September 22, running through Sunday, September 24, at its Midtown Brewery & Biergarten. The festival will span three full days and about two full city blocks. Bier begins pouring and the fest grounds open on Friday at noon, but Oktoberfest St. Louis officially begins during a ceremonial keg-tapping at 7PM. The special guest keg-tapper to be announced.

Athens, Ohio, is a small college town hidden in the hills of southeast Ohio’s coal country that plays host to several excellent breweries, the oldest and most notable of which is Jackie O’s Brewery. Jackie O’s beers cover the spectrum of styles, from sessionable pale ales to barrel-aged behemoths, and rustic saisons to elegant barleywines. Nothing is off limits for this eclectic brewery, and it’s fitting that one of their most celebrated new beers this summer is a style that’s just beginning to creep into the consciousness of American craft beer drinkers—Grisette.
Two Roads Brewing Brings Distribution to Colorado

Connecticut-based Two Roads Brewing Company announced today that they will begin year-round distribution throughout the state of Colorado beginning August 28th with the help of Crooked Stave Artisans.
Founded in 2012 by Brad Hittle, Phil Markowski, Clement Pellani, and Peter Doering, Two Roads Brewing now boasts a 100 barrel brewhouse in Stratford, CT, helmed by acclaimed Master Brewer Phil Markowski. Markowski who previously brewed at Southampton Publick House has garnered over 20 medals throughout the years at the Great American Beer Festival, and is widely recognized for his work in reviving the Saison movement in the US.

Founders Brewing Releases Mosaic Promise in 15-packs

When a brewery uses one malt and one hop to brew a beer, it is commonly referred to as a SMASH. This Single Malt And Single Hop style showcases the basics and purity of brewing. There are no tricks, but often the result offers plenty of treats. Founders Brewing Company’s Mosaic Promise is just that, a treat for the fall season the breaks away from the more complex and popular Märzens, pumpkin spice and harvest ales.
Added officially as Founder’s fall seasonal in 2016, Mosaic Promise is available from August to November in six-pack bottles and now, in 15-pack cans.

When it comes to beer from highly-regarded sour breweries, the tasting process starts with the effort of getting the dang bottle in the first place. Casey Brewing and Blending is a convenient stop in Glenwood Springs if you’re journeying from Denver to anywhere at least two hours west on I-70 (or like us, on a trip to Aspen/Snowmass for the weekend with our parents). We registered a few days in advance for a tour slot ($20 per ticket, including a tasting event) and arrived bright and early on the day of.

Tour de Fat, which originated 18 years ago as a small philanthropic bike and beer festival in Fort Collins, revolving around a community ride concluding at the brewery, has since grown to 33 cities this year, featuring top tier bands such as X Ambassadors, The All-American Rejects, Capital Cities, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Third Eye Blind, and AWOLNATION. This weekend, despite a cancellation of Tour De Fat Denver, the bike-centric festival returns to Boulder and Colorado Springs featuring performances in both stops by Wilderado. Additionally Tour de Fat concludes its Colorado run next Saturday, September 3 where the event first originated, in Fort Collins.

As a solo beer writer with a full time job, I’ve come this realization—I won’t be able to attend every new brewery opening, and I won’t be able to drink every new beer.
This has been worrisome, but after speaking with a few owners and managers of local craft breweries, I now understand that most beer media will cover grand openings, but that the effect wears off pretty quick. It’s reminding the beer loving public months later about what’s happening and what’s new that will pay off for everyone. So with that in mind, I’m not going to worry about missing the grand openings, but rather let each new brewery work out its kinks before writing a feature on them, their beer and potentially their menu. This will also allow you and I, the reader, to benefit from multiple visits to the brewery, which is frankly more fun anyway.
Recently, I paid a second and third visit to what is now the closest craft brewery to my home, Charleville Brewing Company & Tavern located at 2101 Chouteau Avenue in St. Louis, MO..
Elevation Beer Company | Elevation Pilsner

Created for celebration—that’s the genesis of Elevation Pilsner. And it shows. It may not seem like the reason for creating a beer would make a difference in the taste, but somehow it does. It’s a light gold, thirst-quenching beer with surprising bursts of fruity (is that honeysuckle?) and earthy flavors. With an IBU level of 40, it’s more of a happy beer than a hoppy one. And that’s alright with me.
Elevation Beer Company opened their doors in Poncha Springs (“Crossroads of the Rockies”) in Chaffee County, Colorado in 2012. When it found itself doing very well indeed four years later, the brewers said, “Hey, let’s celebrate!” For brewers, the height of celebration is getting really creative by unleashing their considerable chemist and artist skills.

Brewers of Pennsylvania To Host 2017 Mid-Atlantic Brewers’ Symposium in State College, PA

Pennsylvania’s state brewers guild, the Brewers of Pennsylvania (BOP), will be hosting the third annual Mid-Atlantic Brewers’ Symposium in State College, PA. This two-day event will include a welcome reception on the evening of Thursday, September 7, which will be followed by the Brewers’ Symposium itself on Friday, September 8. The Symposium also happens to take place one day before the infamous intrastate rivalry between Penn State and Pitt plays out on the gridiron.
