Note: the author is employed by Kansas City Bier Co.

Every year since the brewery opened in 2014, Kansas City Bier Co. has brewed a Doppelbock in the winter to be blessed and released around the time of Lent, following Bavarian brewing traditions established in the 1600s.  The bier was called Blessed Doppelbock, as it was brewed and then blessed by a local priest for the Lent season. In 2021, however, the beer took on a new name, Carolator, to honor the memory family member who passed unexpectedly.

How big, you ask?

“I had a 1-barrel commercial system in my garage by 2015.”

Georgia Beer Day | March 5, 2022

March 4, 2022 |

Beer deserves to be celebrated! That’s why this Saturday, March 5, 2022, beer lovers across the state will have the chance to raise a glass in honor of Georgia Beer Day as the Georgia Craft Brewers Guild hosts it’s second annual Beer Day. Over 70+ breweries from Acworth to Valdosta are participating in the event.

Breweries have the option to go full-on shindig or just have the commemorative glasses, by artist Ali Lamoureux, available for customers but either way $1 of the sale of the glass goes back to the Guild to help promote growth and support of the industry. The design is an homage to the beautiful landscapes throughout Georgia “from the Blue Ridge Mountains to Driftwood Beach” as an outdoor refuge is portrayed on the Becher pint glass. Last year, these limited (at each brewery) glasses went FAST, so make sure to get there early and support all day!

Hinterland Brewery | Saving Gracie Gluten-Free Hazy IPA

March 4, 2022 |

Hinterland: (noun) a word of German origin meaning “the land behind”; an unexplored, uncharted area full of possibility, opportunity and adventure.

Founded in 1995, Hinterland is Green Bay, Wisconsin’s first modern-day brewery to emerge from the late 1980s craft beer boom. Founders Bill and Michelle Tressler, who were both just 24 years old at the time, moved back home from a rock band drumming, magazine editing, corporate career adventure in California to open a brewery of their own. They rented an old cheese factory outside of town and bootstrapped their way through startup, nearly burning down the factory in the process. Eventually, the Tresslers and their head brewer Joe Karls moved operations into a turn-of-the-century meat processing plant in downtown Green Bay. The small, charming space worked well enough for Hinterland until 2017 when they got a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to expand. They sold the building and brewhouse to Copper State Brewing Company.

What We’re Cooking | Smoked Over-the-Top Chili

February 24, 2022 | 1

Of all the hobbies we’ve collected as humans over the pandemic, learning how to cook with a smoker might be one of the best. It’s practical, can be used for the rest of your life, makes delicious food and walks that perfect line between obsession and enthusiasm without completely depleting your bank account.

If you are in the food-smoking world, you likely have already seen a few (or a ton of) social media posts for over-the-top chili. And even if you haven’t made it yourself (yet), it’s probably high on your list. For National Chili Day, we thought it would be a perfect time to highlight this versatile cold-weather dish. Most chili recipes call for water OR beer, so you can swap out the water in your chili base for any of your favorite beers (probably wouldn’t use a Sour obviously). For this recipe, the beer of choice was 95 Nightmares Before Christmas, a Dry-Hopped Munich Lager from Fiction Beer Co.

New Image Brewing | Noema Blend No. 2

February 23, 2022 |

Aging beer in spirits barrels is nothing new in the world of beer, but some breweries are placing an increased emphasis on this style, creating dedicated series of beers that solely focus on barrel aging in its various forms. New Image is one of those breweries taking their barrel aging game to the next level with the creation of the Anaphora and Noema (pronounced No – Emma) series of Stouts. While Anaphora will focus on massaging the utmost flavor out of barrels without the use of adjuncts, Noema seeks to enhance the natural flavors of barrels by working with additives. New Image Brewing Noema Blend 2 is a showcase example of New Image’s vision and flawless execution.

With Covid numbers surging yet again in the winter of 2021, the Bay Area Brewers Guild knew that they would have to go with an alternate plan for the kick off to Beer Week. Brewery Showcase | Fait la Force Brewing
