21st Amendment recently released their Imperial IPA collaboration with family-owned hop farm, CLS Farms. Close Encounters of the Hop Kind is a Double IPA using some of the new and innovative hops coming out of Yakima Valley. Eric Desmarais, co-founder of CLS, was on hand at a recent event to walk people through the process that brewers go through to chose certain hops. Using El Dorado, Cashmere, Zappa, and their new CLS-X14 as examples for what different hops evoke and express.
Recapping the Best of the Best from 2022 WeldWerks Invitational

There are few things better than an unseasonably cool day in the middle of Colorado’s scorching summer. In fact, only one thing better comes to mind: the divine providence of a barrel-aged-centric beer festival like the 2022 WeldWerks Invitational falling that day.
After two years of COVID postponements, a crowd of excited festival-goers stretched around the block eagerly awaiting the opportunity to hit their favorites early. The WeldWerks team was once able to quickly usher folks in within minutes welcoming craft-beer enthusiasts from across the country flocking to Greeley, CO to enjoy a much-needed return to normalcy. It felt more like a family reunion than a line for a beer festival as drinking buddies met up with their out-of-state friends, some for the first time in years.
Once the doors opened, though, it definitely felt like a beer festival.

MobCraft Dee Tacko Denver Partnering with Falling Rock for GABF Week Blowout

Denver’s Curtis Park neighborhood is certainly not devoid of craft beer options with its close proximity to RiNo’s hotbed of breweries, nearby options like Spangalang and Cohesion, as well as standout beer bars like Finn’s Manor, First Draft Taproom & Kitchen, Goed Zuur, and the recently opened Ephemeral Rotating Taproom. Despite this bounty of options on the periphery, the historic North Denver neighborhood has technically been without a proper craft brewery to anchor its community since Liberati announced its closure over two years ago.
However, as we reported last September, Milwaukee’s MobCraft Beer has announced that it will be filling the void left by Liberati at 2403 Champa Street with a full brewpub featuring a partnership with Pueblo’s Dee Tacko serving as the partner food purveyor. And while construction and renovations have been more extensive than anticipated, Curtis Park residents can rest assured that MobCraft Dee Tacko will be open soon.
Today, the MobCraft team announced that it officially plans to open in Summer 2022, and while that designation still remains vague, they have also announced more concrete plans for beer fans to etch onto their calendars.
Urban Brew Labs | Currantly Unavailable (Gose)

Some beers are easy to categorize. Then there are beers like Currantly Unavailable. Currantly Unavailable from Urban Brew Labs is not a beer that fits neatly into any one box and that’s a great thing. This black currant and lime Gose has a unique taste that is worth experiencing.
Blue Owl Brewing & Hop Capital Brewing Collaborate on See You Again, Friend IPA

Being a beer nerd with half an eye out for whatever new tool or trend the industry intends to chuck out at us next, I haven’t been able to help but notice the term thiol appearing in my feed with increasing frequency. According to the Brewers Association, thiols are highly aroma-active compounds derived from hops that can give very intense fruity flavor to predominantly dry-hopped beers. While the presence of thiols in wine grapes has been known for a while, thiols in hops were discovered relatively recently, hence the sudden outpouring of interest, much of which is tied to the fact that the brewing process does not lend itself naturally to releasing the tropical aromas that chemically complex thiols keep hidden away.

Along with the wondrous mountain scenery is a laid back mountain vibe enjoyed by patrons and vendors alike. No long lines, no crowded bottlenecks, and plenty of time and space to casually have a conversation with a brewery worker or a random attendee, the Vail Craft Beer Classic is ideally set up for enjoying a couple hours worth of various brews.

College Names Brewing Lab To Honor Charlie Papazian

Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver) will soon begin construction of the Charlie Papazian Brewing Education Lab. The lab is named in honor of Charlie Papazian, the retired founder of the American Homebrewers Association, the Great American Beer Festival and the Brewers Association. When discussing the craft beer scene in Alabama, one of the first names that comes up is TrimTab Brewing. Located in the heart of downtown Birmingham, TrimTab Brewing opened their doors in 2013. Since their very first day, they’ve always looked to create beers that fell under the category of expressive and experimental. Whether that was with their IPAs, their fruited Sours, or their Stouts, one thing you can always take away from TrimTab is their ability to keep their products lively, unique, and progressive. One of their newest releases in their Gallery Series is their Chocolate Sauce Imperial Stout. Not only does this series exemplify what TrimTab always aims to do, this particular beer could really mark a turning point in their Stout production.
