April 26, 2017 | Mathew PowersCrystal Lake Brewing may feel awfully far from downtown Chicago, located more than an hour’s drive away, but from the 95th floor of the John Hancock Building, Crystal Lake is easy to see. It’s pretty small, but you can find it. But, on May 2, you won’t have to look very far — Crystal Lake Brewing is bringing its seasonal beer selections to Chicago’s 3rd largest building. Patrons will enjoy Crystal Lake beer and a four-course dinner provided by Chef Cardel Reid. Read More
Dry Dock Brewing Co. | Dry Dock IPA
April 26, 2017 | Dan OldsABV: 7% | IBU: 60
What better way to symbolize the greatness of craft beer than relating it to one of history’s greatest children’s book authors? Recently I picked up a six-pack of Dry Dock Brewing Co.’s newest beer Dry Dock IPA. My attention was immediately drawn to a quote on the top of each can. I had been reading Dr. Seuss to my 4-year old son so, naturally, I connected the two. Read More

Half Acre Beer Co. is expanding and it’s a good sign for Chicago craft beer drinkers. Their new Balmoral Brewery space, a massive 60,000 square foot expansion, is getting closer and closer to opening to the public. Not only does this mean more real estate, but it also means more opportunities to brew beer, including the newly announced mixed fermentation program at their original brew spot in Lincoln Square.

Brewery Showcase | Real Ale Brewing Company
April 25, 2017 | Pam CatoeReal Ale Brewing Company has just celebrated 21 years of brewing beer in the Texas Hill Country — and they don’t show any signs of slowing down. The Brewers Association recently posted the Top 50 Craft Breweries in the US by sales volume and Real Ale made the list at number 49. It’s impressive for a brewery whose motto is “unavailable in 49 states”. That’s right, you can only enjoy the popular Firemans #4 or a unique small batch Mysterium Verum release in the great state of Texas. Recently, the brewery announced the launch of the Real Spirits Distilling program that includes Hill Country Signature Whiskey, Grain to Glass Gin, and the highly limited first batch of Single Barrel Whiskey only available at the Real Ale Taproom.
Dovetail Brewery | Pilsner
April 25, 2017 | Bliss BillingsleyABV: 4.4 | IBU: 39
Brewed in the traditional process, Dovetail’s Brewery’s Pilsner is a trip to Europe in a Czech stein. The outside of the glass has circular divots patterned all around, amplifying the beautiful caramel color. This Pilsner receives its color from a triple decoction mash — the repeated boiling of a portion of mash, then returning it to the main mash. The head on the beer is thick and foamy, remaining stuck to the sides of the glass as you take your sips.

Founders Brewing | Lizard of Koz
April 24, 2017 | Kane McLoughlinSometimes what you crave is the combination of sweet treat and delicious beer. Founders Brewing’s Lizard of Koz is the perfect intersection of just that. Released last year, the Imperial Blueberry Stout comes from the brilliant mind of Jeremey Kosmicki. Founders’ Brewmaster, Kosmicki created this sweet concoction for someone very dear to him. This imperial stout was made special for his little sister’s birthday. He included all her favorite ingredients: fresh Michigan blueberries, rich chocolate and vanilla aged in bourbon barrels. Needless to say, Kosmicki’s little sister, Liz, loved her brother’s creation.
Avery Brewing Returns to Connecticut Shelves

Boulder’s Avery Brewing Co. announced earlier this month that they would be returning distribution to Connecticut, after leaving the state in 2011 because of financial reasons and growing pains.
Connecticut was one of eight states Avery exited from six years ago, as they had lost “the ability to support all markets with a steady supply of fresh beer,” a press release said at the time. Now, due to a new brewery that opened in 2015 with the capabilities to produce 150,000 barrels, Avery says that can start to handle the larger demand and return to some of places they had to leave.

Lone Pint Brewery | Yellow Rose IPA
April 21, 2017 | Pam CatoeABV: 6.8% | IBU: 62
I literally spent the afternoon driving around town and following Twitter to find a Lone Pint Yellow Rose on the shelf for this piece because I think it is one of the most perfect beers brewed in Texas. Named after a popular Texas heroine, Yellow Rose is always in short supply due to the overwhelming popularity of this Single Malt and Single Hop (SMaSH) IPA beauty.
Vinyl & Beers | Milli Vanilla-i and Other Tales
April 20, 2017 | Karl KalinkewiczAs with all great vices, we tell ourselves that as long as we are contributing something positive to the world, then we can indulge our heart’s desires. At least that is what I have convinced myself with Vinyl and Beers, that I can drink as much beer and buy as many records as I deem necessary for the sake of beauty. Being fully committed to my art, I pair a record from my collection with every beer I drink at home, and these are their stories. DUN DUN.

In fact, this marrying of these two joys has remained an earnest focus here on PorchDrinking.com, which is why earlier this past year, we were thrilled to begin a partnership with Alamo Drafthouse in Denver. We’re thrilled to announce that Alamo’s second Denver location, Alamo Drafthouse Sloans Lake, is set to open May 15 at 4255 W. Colfax Ave.

Naples Beach Brewery | Latitude Adjustment IPA
April 20, 2017 | Devin CasterABV: 7.2% | IBU: 70
With the summer heat quickly approaching, complaints about the upper end of the temperature spectrum will quickly arise. Of course, for a place like Southwest Florida, beach weather never truly goes into hibernation. Thus, certain styles are suitable year-round in the Sunshine State including a smooth IPA such as Naples Beach Brewery Latitude Adjustment IPA.
